At both location the customer has setup MSA storage.<\/p>\n<p>In order to keep the customer data safe we want to setup replication between the two locations. To set this up we install VMware vSphere Replication.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>VMware vSphere Replication<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>VMware describes VMware vSphere Replication as follows: \u201c<em>VMware vSphere Replication is a <\/em><em>hypervisor<\/em><em>-based, asynchronous replication solution for vSphere <\/em><em>virtual machines<\/em><em>. It is fully integrated with VMware vCenter Server and the vSphere Web Client. vSphere Replication delivers flexible, reliable and cost-efficient replication to enable <\/em><em>data protection<\/em><em> and <\/em><em>disaster recovery<\/em><em> for all virtual machines in your environment<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"257\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can access VMware vSphere Replication  the following way, logon to vCenter, click on \u201cSite Recovery\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; float: none; display: block; background-image: none;\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image_thumb-1.png\" width=\"169\" height=\"382\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image_thumb-2.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"110\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then click on \u201cOpen Site Recovery\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>When I configure a replication between the two sites I get the following error message.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image_thumb-3.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"23\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>VM name configuration error: A generic error occurred in the vSphere Replication Management. Exception details \u2018https:\/\/ipaddress:8043 invocation failed with java.net SocketTimeoutExeption:Read timed out<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>To resolve this issue we logon the VMware Replication Manager appliance with the admin account.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/image_thumb-4.png\" width=\"413\" height=\"152\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The account admin does not have enough permissions to access the files under <strong><em>\/opt\/vmware\/hms\/conf<\/em><\/strong>. To access this folder we change to the <strong>root <\/strong>user by executing the command <strong>su, <\/strong>(short for substitute or switch user). This utility allows you to run commands with another user\u2019s privileges, by default the root user.<\/p>\n<p>Now we can access the file <strong>hms-configuration.xml<\/strong> via the build in editor <strong>VI<\/strong> we can first read the file, and by pressing the <strong>I <\/strong>key we can edit the open file.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021-12-02-15_05_09-admpqr_rplo01@ads-pmpbeh-v01.ads_.net-PMP-RDP-SESSION-%E2%80%94-Mozilla-Firefox.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"2021-12-02 15_05_09-admpqr_rplo01@ads-pmpbeh-v01.ads.net - PMP RDP SESSION \u2014 Mozilla Firefox\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"2021-12-02 15_05_09-admpqr_rplo01@ads-pmpbeh-v01.ads.net - PMP RDP SESSION \u2014 Mozilla Firefox\" src=\"https:\/\/robinplomp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021-12-02-15_05_09-admpqr_rplo01@ads-pmpbeh-v01.ads_.net-PMP-RDP-SESSION-%E2%80%94-Mozilla-Firefox_thumb.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"91\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Look up the line that starts with \u201c<strong><em>hms-default-vlsi-client-timeout<\/em><\/strong>\u201d and change the value to <strong>900000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After configuring the replication again it is operating successful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At a customer site where the vSphere environment is setup over two locations.
